SCHOOL DIRECTOR

Desert Sky Community School is seeking a Director to oversee day-to-day school operations, including financial activities. The Director is responsible for ensuring that all state and federal requirements are met. The Director monitors curriculum and faculty development to ensure articulation of a Waldorf curriculum with state standards, to support teachers in the implementation of an education worthy of our children. Desert Sky Community School is the only charter school in Tucson that is inspired by Waldorf education. The school is beginning its fourth year, and serves Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, with enrollment of 55 students. The Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Desert Sky Community School. The Director is a year-round position, part-time or full-time.
Compensation is negotiable.

Essential responsibilities:

*Support the School's mission.
*Develop and evaluate instructional programs.
*Oversee school finances and budget.
*Recruit students.
*Recruit and supervise Highly Qualified, Waldorf trained teachers.
*Develop, communicate and enforce school policies and procedures.
*Attend Board meetings and assist the Board as needed.
*Report and comply with all regulatory agencies.
*Develop an effective school community.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
* Experience in both Charter School administration and in Waldorf education
* Demonstrated educational leadership experience
* Minimum 2 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in elementary schools
* Demonstrated ability to recruit, build, supervise, and motivate a first-rate team
* Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with numerous stakeholders
* Strong communication and diplomatic problem-solving skills
* Experience building and managing a budget, and generating compliance reports
